Founded in January 2020 by Shelley Cash a professional marketer, Fern & Oak is a small business based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
On the 8th September 2019, Shelley delivered her daughter, Fern Taylor who was sadly born sleeping at 24 weeks and 5 days.
Fern sadly suffered from Edwards Syndrome, also known as trisomy 18, which is a rare but serious condition. Edwards’ syndrome affects how long a baby may survive. Sadly, most babies with Edwards’ syndrome will die before or shortly after being born.
Going through this devastating experience inspired Shelley to set up a small business to create beautiful gifts. The business was named ‘Fern & Oak’ after beautiful little Fern, and Oak to symbolise growth and strength. Something which Shelley and her partner felt was very fitting after going through such an emotional and testing experience.
The Fern plant was always a favourite of Shelley’s and ferns have grown in her garden for years. She also loves the outdoors and nature. Shelley wanted to create a business which offers ethical products and packaging as she is continuously striving to be as eco-friendly as possible. The range of gifts are reusable where possible and encourage the reduction of plastics and other materials.
The range of products will grow over time, and Shelley will continue to be inspired by nature and travel along the way.
